The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s degree- completion program with Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University allows NWAFU students who meet UNL admissions requirements to complete their undergraduate degrees at UNL.

Application and Admissions for Degree-Seeking Students

Up-to-date admissions requirements and processes are available online at <global.unl.edu>. Students must:

• Complete the application

• Pay a $45 Application Fee

• Submit Official Secondary School Transcripts and Certificate/Diploma

• Submit Official NWAFU Transcripts

• Submit official TOEFL or IELTS score reports. (On the TOEFL, UNL requires a composite of 70 with a writing subscore of 20. On the IELTS, UNL requires a 6.0 with a writing subscore of 5.5)

• Submit a bank statement showing sufficient support for the first year of study which can be found at <global.unl.edu/costand-aid/international-costs.aspx>.

To facilitate the application process, UNL will send someone to NWAFU in January each year from our offices in Xi’an. That person will help the students understand the application process and begin to pull together their materials. Then, each year in March, an admissions counselor from UNL will visit NWAFU, gather the students’ applications, and conduct a preliminary review, informing the students then of any missing materials. Applications will then be sent to UNL. Students should expect to hear about their admission status within one month.

For assistance with international admissions for degree programs, NWAFU staff and students may contact Jake Hoy-Elswick or email <jakehoy@experience.unl.edu>.

Short-term Visiting Students

Students seeking admission as one- or two-semester visiting students should work with Jen Mostek in Education Abroad. She can be reached at <jmostek2@unl.edu>. Courses of study for these students will be developed in concert with an academic advisor. Visiting students are not eligible for the $235/credit hour discount.

Visiting students who enter the U.S. as non-degree students in the J-1 immigration status and then decide to seek a degree will, in most cases, have to leave the U.S. and apply for the appropriate visa classification (most commonly the F-1) in China. While it is possible to request a change of status from the J-1 to F-1 while in the U.S., it is a riskier option as there is a higher chance of a denial of the application by the US Citizenship and Immigration Service.
